The Great Green Hope?

Barak Obama's 44th Presidency, beginning in a couple of weeks, brings hope to people who haven't had much of that lately. I wonder whether he can help solve many of the environmental issues we face today, the economy, health care, the infrastructure, and so many problems we face. I am looking forward to seeing if his campaign of HOPE carries the environment into his Presidency.

There seems to be a lot of hope in the air these days. Everybody has a different reason to be hopeful, but I think Barak Obama's upcoming inauguration is the crest of the "hope wave". My hope is that he makes good on cleaning up the environment, turn the economy around, and bring peace to the U.S.

Will his green campaign ideas impact hotels? Probably, and that's a good thing. Money and the environment are saved through water and energy conservation, the reduction of our reliance on oil (especially foreign oil), and steps to improve air quality.

I think the environment is going to be an integral part of turning the economy around. Just as when Kennedy started the Space Program and new industry and jobs came into existence, I think the Environment Program will have industry and job spin offs. With new jobs comes new excitement, and of course money. Technology will exceed its already fast-paced advancement and things we never dreamed of will be common place in a matter of years.

An improved economy will benefit hotels too. People will travel more and stay longer. They'll be able to pay more for their lodging. Operating a green hotel has various costs, ranging from free to expensive with fast payback. I hope hotels will become more proactive in greening their operations.

I hope Obama will make a big difference. Can he do it?
