Green Meetings Abound!
Green meetings and conferences that will discuss environmentally friendly hotel issues and problems are being held across the U.S. Here are just a few for the first quarter of 2008. Whether you are an executive of a hotel or a conference planner, in hospitality management or investing, or pursuing a LEED green building or just going green because you want to, there are meetings for you that will further your cause.
It's not an uncommon question for me to hear. And probably not uncommon for you to ask. Is the environmental movement making progress, are hotels getting greener?
As evidenced by the number of green hospitality meetings and tracks in other meetings, my answer is a resounding "Yes". Four years ago there was one green hospitality meeting. In 2008 there will be three in the first quarter of the year, with green tracks in other hospitality meetings around the country and across Europe.
ALIS (Americas Lodging Investment Summit), the annual meeting for hotel executives and investors, among others, is again in Los Angeles. This year the dates are January , 2008. There are three special program tracks this year: International Opportunities, Development andGreen Hotels. Participate in a wide array of presentations, seminars and workshops in the important issues that impact your business.
The Green Meeting Industry Council will hold its third Greening of the Hospitality Industry Conference in February. Vancouver, BC, Canada, is hosting the conference this year. The dates are Februayr 19-21, 2008. You'll meet and learn from industry insiders who are running green meetings and hotels, as well as restaurants. Numerous vendors will be present to share their green products and ideas.
The first annual Green Hotel Development conference is in Henderson, NV, March 11-13, 2008. This conference will focus on the critical issues of green hotel development and operation. Hosted by JMBM and the University of Nevada Las Vegas will take green hotels to the next level.
And finally, the second annual Green Hospitality Conference is again at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas in conjunction with the 8th annual Hospitality Operations and Technology (HOT) conference. The dates are March 12-14, 2008. It's again hosted by Lodging Hospitality Magazine and Pineapple Hospitality. As of this posting, there was no website for this conference.
These four conferences are just a beginning of what's available for you. Depending on what your needs and focus are, you will find a meeting that suits your needs. My challenge to you is to make this coming year a greener one at your hospitality property.
