Bravo Starwood's Element Hotels

Being a truely green hotel requires more than just offering a sheet and towel reuse program. Recycling, as well as water and energy conservation are other good steps. But when a hotel tends to air quality and the human spirit as well, you know you are on to a truely green hotel.

I gather Starwood Hotels and Resorts is adopting green initiatives bit at a time, some brands more than others. And Element is doing the most, it would seem. It seems Element has adopted a Bright Green style of environmentalism (see ECOnomically Sound to learn more about the shades of green environmentalism can take).

First of all, Element is striving to take a fresh approach to its hotels. Foyers are lit with natural light pouring in from tall windows, room furniture is customizable to fit guests' needs, and appliances are Energy Star rated. Those are all commendable and sustainable approaches to greening the hospitality industry.

Furthermore, the hotels use low VOC finishes, bulk dispensers for guest amenities, water-efficient fixtures, and provide filter water in guestrooms; offer guests the chance to continue their recycling habits, and better air quality; and they reward drivers of hybrid cars.

But Element's biggest show of environmental commitment comes in the new requirement that all Element hotels pursue LEED certification. Element demonstrates daily that being green can be both environmentally friendly and comfortable and aesthetically appealing. Make your reservation for a wonderful eco-vacation at one of them today.

Way to go, Element hotels!
